UGC aims to train at least 5,000 staff members from all central universities through a wide range of topic coverage including emerging technologies and communication skills.

UGC Capacity Building Programme

University Grants Commission (UGC) has initiated a specialised capacity-building training programme for staff members from 45 central universities across India. In the first phase, UGC aims to train at least 5,000 staff members. The training will consist of numerous aspects including understanding workflow psychology, academic management, technology utilization, financial management and project management.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) forms a collaboration with the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) on Thursday to train the employees in order to make them efficient and effective at the same time.

What Topics Will Be Covered in UGC's Training Programme?

The training will have topics including the psychology of workflow, utilising technology in the workflow, handling establishment matters, project management, and grasping the higher education ecosystem, UGC Chairman Mamidala JagadeshKumar told IANS.

Earlier in 2023, UGC conducted several assessments to understand specific competency requirements among its employees. The significance of capacity building was categorised into functional, behavioural and other tailor-made training programmes to overcome subjective deficiencies.

"Over 635 UGC employees have completed approximately 5,480 courses on the Integrated Government Online Training (iGoT) Karmayogi platform. These courses cover a wide range of topics, including emerging technologies, data-driven decision-making, yoga, and communication skills." as reported by Newstap.

Further, the UGC has requested non-teaching staff members in the 45 Central Universities to complete the assignment in the areas mentioned. The assessments are available at iGOT Mission Karmayogi platform and the deadline to complete the assessment is four months. Central University employees will receive completion certificates once the course is completed.
