Students willing to qualify UGC NET with JRF shall have a minimum of 75 percent marks or equivalent scores in their four-year undergraduate degree programme.

UGC NET 2024 Admission Criteria

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar announced the revised PhD admission criteria 2024. As per the criteria, students holding four-year undergraduate degrees can appear for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) conducted for admission in PhD programmes. Further, students willing to qualify NET with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) shall have a minimum of 75 percent marks or equivalent scores in their four-year undergraduate degree programme.

UGC NET 2024: Revised Eligibility Criteria

Students with a four-year undergraduate programme will be provided a research-based degree with which they can join PhD courses directly (If they have a minimum of 7.5 GPA in their undergraduate programme). Previously, NET applicants were only offered admission if they hold a master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

"The candidates with four-year undergraduate degrees can now directly pursue PhD and appear for NET. Such candidates are allowed to appear (for tests) in a subject in which they want to pursue a PhD irrespective of the discipline in which they have obtained the four-year bachelor's degree," Kumar told PTI.

"Candidates having passed a four-year or eight-semester bachelor's degree programme should have a minimum of 75 per cent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed," the UGC chairman further added.

Relaxation of 5% for Reserved Categories

Students belonging to SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), EWS and other denoted categories will be given a relaxation of five percent marks or its equivalent grades, as reported by The Times of India.

UGC NET 2024 registration process is ongoing and will end on May 10, 2024. Students willing to pursue PhD programmes have to appear for the National Eligibility Test and qualify the exam. The NTA will conduct the UGC NET 2024 June cycle exam from June 16, 2024.
