Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approves 3 state universities in Gonda, Mirzapur, Moradabad

With the addition of 3 more state universities, UP will have a total of 23 state universities.

To improve the higher education opportunities in the state, the state Cabinet gave its nod to open state universities in three mode divisions including Devipatan, Vindhyachal and Moradabad divisions.

For setting up these universities, the proposal for promulgation of Uttar Pradesh State University (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 to amend Section-4, Section-50 and Section-52 of the Uttar Pradesh State University Act and Schedule-V of the Act has been approved by the government. Now, it will be passed in the Legislative session.

Maa Pateshwari Devi State University will be established in Gonda in Devipatan Mandal, Maa Vindhyavasini State University in Mirzapur and Uttar Pradesh State University will be established in Moradabad. The first instalment of INR 50 crore each has been approved in the budget to open these three state universities. With the addition of these three states, there will be 23 state universities.

In addition, the state Cabinet has also approved the proposal for the establishment of a private university - SKS International University in Mathura.

In July this year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath invited private universities to invest in Uttar Pradesh. He said that investment in the education sector never goes to waste and there are tremendous opportunities in the education sector of the state, which has a large young population.

“Three state universities, 36 private universities, two AIIMS, two IETs and IIMs are functional in the state. More than 2,000 polytechnics are also running. Despite this, there are districts without a university,” he said a few months ago.
