Government medical colleges' administrations in Nagpur, Akola and Yavatmal are tightening the security arrangements on the campus.

After the murder of an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) final year student in a government medical college in Yavatmal, the administrations of Nagpur, Akola and Yavatmal government medical colleges and the directorate of medical education had promised the resident doctors protesting the murder that the security arrangements at these campuses will be improved.

Authorities at the medical colleges GMCH (Government Medical College & Hospital Nagpur) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical Colleges & Hospital, Nagpur (IGGMCH) have submitted the proposal to increase the number of security guards on the campus and the resident doctors seem to be happy with the progress.

A senior administrative officer in GMCH said, "As per the audit done in 2017, more than 200 security guards are must in the 200-acre premises of the GMCH. Currently, we have 68 guards. The revised proposal has been sent to DMER," as quoted by TOI.

"A pass system has been introduced for patients' relatives. Only one attendant is allowed to stay with one patient now. This has reduced rush and improved the security situation in GMCH," said the President of the local unit of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD).

All medical colleges in Maharashtra have been told to submit similar proposals and the authorities are also going to increase the number of CCTV cameras on the campus as confirmed by the DMER director Dr Dilip Mhaisekar.
