The Tamil Nadu cabinet, headed by the chief minister MK Stalin, has resolved to provide 7.5 per cent reservation to the government school students in the professional courses.
It is similar to the reservation provided in the medical admission in Tamil Nadu. A 7.5 per cent quota is already being given to the admissions in medical courses in the state. The earlier AIADMK government headed by K Palaniswami had provided this reservation in the undergraduate medical courses.
An official release said the state government had previously established a commission led by retired Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, D Murugesan to assess the enrolment ratio of government school students in professional courses in the state.
As per the assessment, only fewer students from government schools were getting admission to professional courses. By going ahead with the 7.5 per cent reservation, the cabinet has implemented the recommendation of the committee. The cabinet has decided to move a bill in the coming assembly session for the same.
Meanwhile, the ruling DMK is all set to present its first budget on August 13, and a separate Agri budget will also be tabled in the assembly the next day.
