Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai says NEET is not against social justice
Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai has denied that NEET is discriminatory against the poor and added that the entrance examination is only against the private medical colleges that demand hefty capitation.
Amid the anti-NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) sentiments in Tamil Nadu, only BJP is supporting the examination continuation in the state. While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and other parties have passed a Bill in State Assembly for exemption from NEET, BJP Chief of the state K Annamalai has said that certain political parties are trying to create an impression that the NEET screening is against the interest of poor. On the contrary, it has fulfilled the aspirations of many candidates to pursue medical.
He said that the entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses is not against social justice but is only targeted against those private medical colleges demanding heavy capitation for admitting students.
“NEET is only against those private medical colleges that demand hefty capitation from the students and it is not discriminatory. Nor is it against social justice,” Annamalai said, as reported by NDTV.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Stalin has urged Prime Minister Modi to exempt the state from NEET. He and other parties have also decided to reach out to other states to gather support on the matter. As per the Stalin led government, NEET is favouring the affluent students and there is not much scope for poor students through NEET. They also allege that the state has witnessed many cases of suicides by young medical aspirants from poor families and the examination is creating social injustice.
