BEd students demands restoration eligibility for primary teacher
On this date in 2018, the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) had passed the order as per which BEd degree holders were also considered eligible to teach in primary schools.
Several Bachelor of Education (BEd) students took to social media platform to celebrate June 28, 2022 as the golden day for quality education. Along with this, they have also urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring justice to them by making them eligible for primary teacher post. The Rajasthan High Court has in 2021 has set aside the order of NCTE dated June 28, 2018, in which BEd degree holders were considered eligible to teach in primary schools.
In May 2022, the Allahabad High Court has also put a stay on the issuance of eligibility certificates to BEd degree holders who have qualified for the UPTET (Primary level) examination 2021 citing the Rajasthan HC order.
Students are campaigning on Twitter with hashtag golden_day_for_quality_education while requesting PM Modi to save National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)’s gazette notification June 28, 2018 and get strong advocates for their side to win the argument in the Allahabad High Court on July 14.
Allahabad High Court had asked the NCTE to submit reply on why no new notification was issued to the Uttar Pradesh government as per the judgment of the Rajasthan High Court.
