India sets goal for half million foreign students by 2047, says NITI Aayog CEO

While addressing the 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam unveiled India's visionary plan to attract half a million foreign students to its educational institutions by 2047.
He emphasised the paramount role of education within NITI Aayog's forthcoming vision document for 2047.
"Our vision for 2047 places significant emphasis on education. Our goal is to enrol half a million foreign students in India by that time. Achieving this objective necessitates elevating our educational standards, enhancing brand recognition, and securing top global rankings," he expressed.
He also underscored the requirement to set up more education cities across India and stressed on the significance of partnership between the public and private sectors to strengthen the higher education system.
BVR Subrahmanyam also urged the private sector to attract international students while encouraging local students to pursue education within the country.
"To meet this target, we require innovative approaches within the higher education sector. Our primary focus should be on reforming the educational system to ensure students are equipped with industry-ready skills," Subrahmanyam affirmed, as reported by India Today.
The 18th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2023 was being organized on the theme “Empowering Minds, Driving Transformation: Redefining the Future of Higher Education” from November 29 to November 30, 2023, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. This year’s theme centred around embracing digital innovation, promoting lifelong learning, ensuring inclusivity, encouraging entrepreneurship, facilitating interdisciplinary education, and enhancing the internationalization of higher education.
