Law student hangs self in BHU’s hostel room

The deceased, identified as Prem Shankar, had updated his status on WhatsApp before allegedly hanging himself to death. His WhatsApp status read, “Good bye all of you..sorry to say.”  

A 25-year-old law student from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room. He was pursuing LLM from BHU. 

The deceased, identified as Prem Shankar, had also updated his status on WhatsApp before allegedly hanging himself to death. His WhatsApp status read, “Good bye all of you..sorry to say.” The status was updated at 12:37 am and his friends informed the police and hostel authorities around 1:30 am. When the student’s hostel room was forced open, he was found hanging.  

The student was a resident of Bhojpur, Bihar. He was studying in the second semester of his postgraduate course. According to the police, the student was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a bed sheet tied around his neck. His body has been sent for the postmortem examination.  

Parents seek inquiry

The parents of the student had last talked to him at 10 pm, but they did not find anything to be concerning. They are demanding an investigation into the matter. Before joining BHU, the deceased was studying at Ramjas College affiliated with Delhi University.

BHU has opened the registration window for all postgraduate courses for CUET-PG counselling and the last date to apply for the same is October 25, 2022Candidates can fill out their preference entry till October 26, 2022.
