Schools and Colleges Closed in Chennai and other Districts Due To Cyclone Michaung

Schools Closed in Chennai: Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are closed today as a precuationary measure due to Cyclone Michaung forming over the Bay of Bengal. Chennai, Chengalpet, Thiruvallore, and Kalaiselvi are among the districts where schools, colleges and other educational institutes are closed.
The cyclonic storm is expected to make landfall along the South Andhra Pradesh and neighboring North Tamil Nadu coastline. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
ANI on December 2, 2023, tweeted on X, that the district Kanchipuram, Chennai, Chengalpet, and Thiruvallore districts collector announces holiday for schools and colleges on December 4, 2023 due to heavy rainforcast by IMD.
Schools in Puducherry and Karaikal were closed on December 1, 2023 as a preventive measure by government. In case of any queries or confusion, parents and students must get in touch with the school authorities.
Tamil Nadu government has announced a public holiday today and in addition, they asked private companies and offices to instruct their employees to work from home or operate only with essential staff in taking into account the impending cyclone.
IMD has issued an orange alert for Chennai and neighbouring areas too.
Eighteen teams will be available for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Puducherry. Cyclone Michaung is expected to move toward the west-northwest, strengthen into a depression then move over the Southwest Bay of Bengal into a cyclonic storm.
