At least two lakh girls in the age group of 11-14 years will be trained in 45,000 schools across the state. The six-day training program will include self-defence techniques and make the children aware of issues such as eve-teasing, cyberbullying and acid attacks.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to impart training to school girls under its new self-defence training program named after freedom fighter Rani Laxmibai, India Today reported. Through the Rani Laxmibai Self-Defense Training, the Yogi Adityanath government intends to empower girls to defend themselves.

At least two lakh girls in the age group of 11-14 years will be trained in 45,000 schools across the state. The six-day training program will include self-defence techniques and make the children aware of issues such as eve-teasing, cyberbullying and acid attacks.

Physical education instructors appointed in schools will be selected to provide training for an hour every working day, and the program will also include yoga.

Self-defence experts, legal advisors, women and child protection organisations, officers of the UP Police and education department, and experts from UPDESCO, UNICEF, and Tenosis Agency were consulted for this program.

The government's objective is to enable girl students to learn self-defence techniques and understand the laws related to crimes against girls. Students will also be informed about the government's helpline services and safety schemes for women and girls.
