Technical institutes reopen for physical classes in Odisha

All technical institutes in Odisha, including engineering colleges and industrial technical institutes, have reopened for physical classes amid strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.  

The decision was taken following a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Students and staff have been directed to ensure complete vaccination before rejoining classes. Strict orders have been issued to maintain appropriate Covid protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks. There are around 200 technical institutes that offer courses such as MBA, MCA, pharmacy and engineering.  

Odisha technical education minister Premananda Nayak said, “Whenever possible, the physical classroom teaching shall be recorded and shared with absentee students. Teachers/staff/students staying in active containment zones will not come to universities/ colleges. Facemask is mandatory.” 

He said, “As per the government decision, only final year students are allowed to attend the classes. Decision on resumption of other classes will be taken later.” 

Physical classes for Class 9 students to resume on August 16  

However, schools across Odisha reopened on July 26, 2021 for the students of Classes 10 and 12. Physical classes are held from 10 am to 1.30 pm, as per thehe standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the School and Mass Education Department. The physical classes for Class 9 students will resume in government, government aided and private educational institutions from August 16. The teaching hours for Class 9 students will be from 9 am to 12.30 pm, excluding Sundays and public holidays. The students are allowed to attend classes either in online mode or offline mode in consultation with their parents.
