Telangana HC dismisses petitions challenging KNRUHS first year MBBS exam pattern
Telangana High Court has dismissed a batch of petitions challenging the first year MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) exam pattern of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS).
The first year MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) students of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) had approached the Telangana High Court seeking a second supplementary examination claiming that the university has not followed the inclusion of 20% Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) as directed by National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.
As per the latest report, the High Court has dismissed the petitions as they observed that not including the MCQs in the examination was a minor deviation from the exam pattern suggested by NMC. The High Court bench comprising Justice B Vijaysen Reddy said that the students must have approached the HC as soon as they found the violation of the prescribed format of the exam pattern.
The HC bench observed, "To give MCQs or not is the discretion of the university. Even the guidelines on the pattern of question paper issued by the Medical Council of India, now known as the National Medical Commission, are only advisory and not mandatory. Hence, we cannot direct the university to conduct a second supplementary exam for the failed candidates," as reported by Medical Dialogues.
KNRUHS has more than 160 government and private affiliated colleges and the university is recognised by the MCI/NMC and University Grants Commission (UGC). The university offers UG, PG, super speciality, doctoral and post-doctoral programmes under different streams including Dental, Modern Medicine, Ayurvedic, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Physiotherapy, Unani, Nursing and more.
