TN NEET Exemption: Health Minister urges Mansukh Mandaviya to support the Bill

As per reports, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has once again pushed the state's request for NEET Exemption to the Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.

He has placed several requests to the Union Health Minister along with the request of exempting the state from the national level entrance examination NEET.

Ma Subramanian met Dr Mansukh Mandaviya during his visit to the Omandurar Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in the city where he inspected various facilities. He requested the union minister to support the NEET Exemption Bill passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and sent to the Central government for getting the Presidential assent.

Ma Subramanian's other demands to Centre

The state health minister said he has requested to upgrade 50 Health Sub Centres to Primary Health Centres and 25 Primary Health Centers to 30 bedded Upgraded Primary Health Centers. In a letter to the union health minister, he said the role of state government in PG medical admissions under state quota is limited and the draft rules for the same should be revised and sub-sections 10.1 of the draft should be dropped.

He requested the Centre to increase the number of medical students studying abroad from 7.50% to 20% in the application to practice and train in the state. For Ukraine returned medical students, Ma Subramanian requested to find a way for them so they can continue their remaining MBBS in India.

He asked the union minister to stop the efforts towards changing the current admission system for state-allocated seats and expedite works of AIIMS Hospital in Madurai as currently the government has given admission to AIIMS Madurai but classes are being conducted at Ramanathapuram government medical college from February 2022. He also requested Dr Mandaviya to approve new AIIMS in Coimbatore, besides giving approval for establishing new medical colleges in six districts of the state.
