TN: Self-financing medical colleges hike fees for MBBS, BDS courses
Private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu have increased the one-year fee for government reserved seats for MBBS and BDS courses from INR 4.3 lakh to 4.5 lakh.
The self-financing medical colleges in the state have hiked the one-year fee for government reserved seats for MBBS and BDS courses from INR 4.3 lakh to INR 4.5 lakh.
As per News 18 report, the one-year fee for administrative quota seats has increased from INR 12.5 lakhs to INR 13.5 lakhs. Moreover, the reservation fees for NRIs have increased. Last year, it was INR 23.5 lakhs while in the present year, it is INR 24.5 lakhs.
Other than the increase in fees, these private medical colleges are also allowed to collect INR 40,000 per student for the development fund. Also, the accommodation charges, transportation charges, and food charges are not included in the current rates and these charges need to be paid separately. As a result, the students have to pay up to one lakh annually in addition to the current fee.

If NRI seats are not filled, they will be transferred to the general pool. The fee for such allotted seats is fixed at INR 21.5 lakhs per annum. Currently, the fees fixed by the fee determination committee are special fees, enrollment fees, tuition fees, sports fees, laboratory fees, etc.
From this year, the state will get two new private medical universities - Thanalakshmi Srinivasan University and Venkateswara Medical College Hospital. The state government has reserved seats in these private medical universities for INR 5.4 lakh and for administrative quota seats, the fee is INR 16.2 lakhs. For NRIs, INR 29.4 lakh has been fixed as a fee.
