TNAU launches diploma programme in Agricultural Engineering
The two-year course has been started with a capacity of 40 students per batch. Candidates with Plus Two qualifications have been enrolled under TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme.
TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme: Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur commenced the first of its kind Diploma in Agricultural Engineering programme.
TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme to generate employment
TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme was inaugurated by TNAU Vice-Chancellor V Geethalakshmi recently. The VC shared that the programme would help in generating employment and take agricultural engineering to grassroots level farmers in Tamil Nadu.
The two-year course has been started with a capacity of 40 students per batch. Candidates with Plus Two qualifications have been enrolled under TNAU Agricultural Engineering programme. Under this prorgamme, students would be able to learn different aspects of agricultural engineering, including farm mechanisation, soil water conservation, food processing, and Renewable Energy Engineering, Professor Geethalakshmi informed.
Stating that the programme would be highly beneficial for farmers and farm activities, the Vice Chancellor further added that TNAU was focusing on complete farm mechanisation of all crops to overcome labour shortage.
Club activities, integrated farming system at TNAU
Profesor Geethalakshmi also inaugurated students’ club activities, integrated farming system, and student cafeteria on the occasion.
P Rajkumar, Dean, Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, said facilities created for the new programme included lecture halls, labs, fields and hostel facilities. Annadurai, Principal of Institute of Agriculture, Kumulur, said that students would be exposed to practical field activities for understanding the dynamics of different crops.
TNAU signs MoU with ITC
Recently TNAU inked a Memorandum of Understanding with ITC. The MoU was signed in continuation of the diversified conglomerate's objective to optimise water usage for crops and thus, it was informed that the company has partnered with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU).
As per the agreement, TNAU will be the technical partner of ITC and will act as an agent to create better awareness among the farmers to save water through the introduction of different agronomic practices as well as irrigation-efficient technology, the varsity said in a press release. ITC has saved 8.5 cubic meters of water via optimising water usage in the Karamadai catchment in the Coimbatore district.
