The UGC has approved full-fledged online degree programmes in 42 universities across India. These higher educational institutions are now entitled to start full-fledged online courses without prior approval of the UGC.
University of Grants Commission (UGC) has released an updated list of Higher Educational Institutions entitled to start full-fledged online courses without prior approval. The list has been released as per provisions stipulated under regulations of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020.
The UGC has approved full-fledged online degree programmes in 42 universities across India. These higher educational institutions are now entitled to start full-fledged online courses without prior approval of the UGC.
UGC had earlier invited applicants from higher education institutions willing to offer online programmes for the academic session 2020-21. “The HEIs mentioned in the list released by the UGC are entitled to offer online courses for the period, till they are complying NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements, and if not, they shall discontinue the courses and accordingly, inform the same to the UGC. The learners already enrolled in the current recognised programmed shall be allowed to complete the programmes in the laid down manner as per the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020,” the UGC stated in official notification.
The Higher Education regulation has further said that the programmes under the ambit of Regulatory Authorities have been considered on the basis of the communication/ recommendation that was received separately from the respective Regulatory Authority.
Central universities like Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) will offer Master Of Arts (Education) and Master Of Arts (Public Administration) in virtual mode. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will offer a Master Of Arts in Sanskrit and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) will offer a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts (Economics, History, Political Science, English, Urdu, Hindi), Master of Arts (Economics, History, Political Science, English, Urdu, Hindi), Master of Commerce.
Mizoram University will offer four online degree programmes. The University Of Jammu will offer Master Of Arts (English) and Master Of Commerce in completely online mode.
Among private institutions, deemed to be universities like Narsee Monjee Institute Of Management Studies will offer Bachelor Of Commerce and Bachelor Of Business Administration; and ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education (Deemed to be University) will offer Master of Business Administration (Finance, HRM, Marketing, Operations and IT), Jain University deemed-to-be university will offer seven postgraduate courses including MA Economics and MA English and two undergraduate ones, Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Administration. Symbiosis International will offer Bachelor Of Business Administration-Finance And Accounts And Bachelor Of Science (Honours) – Economics.
