UGC starts registration for 4 SWAYAM courses

University Grants Commission started registration for 4 SWAYAM courses on Buddhist Studies on Guru Purnima Day.

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar announced the opening of enrollment for Study Webs of Active–Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) programmes/courses on Buddhist Studies on Guru Purnima yesterday, July 3, 2023.

"Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon on Guru Purnima Day. Considering the importance of this day, UGC has opened the registration for the following four SWAYAM Courses on Buddhist Studies," tweeted UGC Chief.

UGC has opened the registration process for the following four SWAYAM Courses on Buddhist Studies- History of Indian Buddhism, Buddhist Philosophy, Abhidhamma (Pali), and Buddhist Tourism. Of these four courses, the first 3 are being re-run on the SWAYAM Portal, due to a huge response from the learners.

All these courses are for duration of 15 weeks. It will start on August 1, 2023, and end on August 31, 2023. Pre-requisite for these courses include graduation in any subject with the knowledge of English as a medium of instruction and interest in Buddhist studies.

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching and learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
