Uttar Pradesh government-run primary and upper primary schools in Gautam Budh Nagar conducted a two-hour training session on spoken English for more than 700 teachers. According to a report published by HT, the initiative to conduct the training session was taken after the education department of the state government on March 1 instructed the basic education officers of all 75 districts to train teachers so that they can teach students of Classes 1 to 8 how to speak English.
Training to benefit 107,000 students
In order to conduct the sessions, the district basic education department roped in a non-governmental organisation. Dharmendra Saxena, basic education officer, Gautam Budh Nagar, “As government schools are Hindi medium, the government has instructed basic education departments to ensure that students are taught how to speak English. The move is aimed at honing the spoken English skills of the students.”
The initiative will benefit about 107,000 students of Classes 1 to 8 in the district’s government schools. Saxena added that the NGO virtually trained more than 766 teachers from 511 government primary and upper primary schools in the district using the teaching-learning material (TLM) kits. The TLM kits included a teacher training diary which has lesson plans, rubber alphabets, audio device with 112 lessons in audio form and some other such tools for better learning and teaching.
