V K Srivastava has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU). The MSU received the approval of the government to appoint Shrivastava, the Executive President —an equivalent of Vice-Chancellor —at Indus University in Ahmedabad to the post.

His appointment comes at a time when the varsity is surrounded by allegations of scams regarding recruitments and most recently on a furniture contract. On February 9, 2022, the state government had issued a notice to the office of the vice-chancellor, a day before Parimal Vyas' retirement, seeking clarity on the allegations of a recruitment scam.

Srivastava was also the former VC of the Sankalchand Patel University in Visnagar. He is also a member of the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority.

Apart from administrative experience in educational institutions, Srivastava has several research papers and publications to his credit. He has expertise in wastewater treatment, solid waste management, environmental issues of industries and energy recovery using plasma technology.

While speaking to reporters, he linked MSU to the ancient education seats of Takshashila, Nalanda and Vikramshila when it was established. He said that he would work to get back this glory. He said that he would also focus on ensuring MSU’s contribution to national missions like Startup India, Digital India and Make In India. He also stressed providing quality education and how merely providing education is not sufficient.
