West Bengal government has asked school authorities to reopen schools on June 27 while adhering to Covid -19 guidelines.
After extending the summer vacation by 11 days till June 26, now the West Bengal government has asked all state-run and state-aided schools to reopen campuses from June 27 while strictly following the COVID-19 protocols.
Through a notification, the government has asked the school authorities to maintain hygiene on the campus and ensure that all Covid-19 guidelines are followed.
Teachers, parents wanted schools to reopen soon
As per reports, the guardians and teachers were not happy with the government's decision to extend the summer vacation. Many private schools mostly those affiliated with ICSE or CBSE had resumed physical classes from June 20.
“The normal practice is to have a two-week holiday from the fourth week of May to about the end of the first week of June. This year schools closed on May 2 and will reopen only on June 26 — that’s some eight weeks. It is an unnecessary loss of school days. Students of Classes 10 and 12 will suffer the most since they will have only three months of classes before we shut down again for Durga Puja and their pre-boards are usually scheduled for November,” said the principal of a Kolkata-based girls’ school, who did not wish to be named, as reported by The Hindu.
The summer vacation was extended due to the scorching heatwaves in the state. The government notification stated, "…as reports of a few death cases due to heat and humidity have been received, the competent authority has decided to extend the summer vacation till June 26 or until further instructions, whichever is earlier.”
