  • Sister Grade-II
  • Total:- 652 posts
  • Category Wise Vacancy:- (UR-328,OBC-177,SC-98,ST-49)
  • Age Limit:- 30 years
  • Pay Scale/Salary:- Rs. 9300-34800/-
  • Grade Pay:- Rs. 4600/-

A candidate must fulfill the following qualifications:

i) Matriculation (10th) or its equivalent from a recognized University/Board

ii) Certificate in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) from a recognized Institution or equivalent qualifications for Male Nurse

iii) Candidate should be Registered ‘A' Grade Nurse & Midwife with a State Nursing Council or equivalent qualification for Male Nurse.

Scope of Nursing as a Career

There are immense opportunities for nurses as this profession not only gives satisfaction but good money. Besides taking care of the patients, a nurse also assist the physicians during examination and operation of patients. The profession demands 8 to 10 hours of work each day. Some of the other jobs of the nurses are as follows:

  • Record temperature
  • Measuring pulse rate
  • Administer medication orally and hypodermic (injections)
  • Change dressings
  • Assist patient in personal care
  • Prepare patient for surgery


As per the hierarchy, senior nurses are designated as Matron or Nursing Superintendent. They are also responsible for supervision of the work of nurses and allied administrative duties.

Qualified nurses can opt for other work arrangements, which includes private working as resident nurses for private patients, in nursing homes, extended health care facilities, daycare centres, public health agencies or in hospitals. Nursing aides/attendants work in hospitals, nursing homes and extended care facilities.

Graduates can also opt for Emergency Mangement & Research Institute in collaboration with Stanford University, USA conducts a 2 year full time residential PG program in Emergency Care .

Nursing as a Career: Options Abroad

Nurses from India does not require additional qualifications to work in US. They need to pass the Commission of Foreign Nursing Schools Exam (CGFNS) held in Delhi, Bangalore, Kochi in March, July and November. After this they are required to clear the licensing examination - National Council Li censure Examination for Registered nurses (NCLEXRN)-a test only conducted in the US.
