Mystory@Jagmeet: How I made the most of my college life
My father always wanted me to pursue Science as at that time Science and Maths were the most popular streams for higher education. Since my maths was weak, I chose Science without Maths in Class 11 and 12. With the passage of time, I realized Nursing more suitable to me than MBBS or BDS. I realized that Basic BSc. Nursing is good for me and that it can help me go abroad easily, too.
For Nursing, I took competitive exams like PPMET. I missed admission in PGI by only one mark because of reserved seats, but got selected in Government College of Nursing, Patiala, one of the oldest government colleges in the state.
I believe hard work is the key to success and I worked really hard sincerely to crack admission to this college. However, given a choice I would have studied Literature instead.
What I learned in my college days
I would describe my college experience as marvelous. Days spent with my friends were the golden days of my life.
My college days are the most memorable years of my life, where I grew up completely to learn from and enjoy life. My college had a wonderful faculty and very helpful staff. My seniors were very cooperative and friendly and so were my juniors. Our teachers would share their experiences with us students. Those valuable lessons later helped us a lot.
In colleges we used to celebrate almost all festival such as Lohri, Holi, etc. One of the best part of the celebrations was Nursing Week, held in the month of May. Various competitions and events were held during that week like debate, role play, rangoli competition, poster making competition and sports events. Among all the events, my favourite was debate in which I bagged second and third prizes over two years. These competitions helped me in gaining confidence.
My hostel life
My hostle life was simply fantastic. I really miss that life and my friends. My best buddies were Ancy Joseph, Sheenam Aggarwal and Simran. We used spend most of the time with each other. Together, we used you visit the Church, the Temple, the Gurudwara and Dargah. We would roam around together and try new dishes. At times we would feast on maggi. We would even study together.
I really wish I could spend those days once again. The days of no fear and no responsibility. I secured first position in third year and my friends were annoyed with me. Still, those were the best days of my life.
If given a chance, I would have chosen nothing else but that life only.
