How to become a Nurse
Nursing in India as a career carries a very high potential.  Nurses perform several tasks from offering fundamental healthcare to taking care of critically ill patients in intensive care settings. There are four major types of nursing qualifications in India:
  • Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM): Two years of training with ANM certification. Candidates are taught about Operation Theatre, its operation, various types of equipment, and how to use them while taking the ANM course. The minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years on or before 31st December in the year in which admission is sought
  • General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM): Three years and six months of training with Registered Nurse (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) certification. Aspirants can begin their GNM career by joining as a Home Nurse, Health Visitor, Community Health Worker, Basic Health Worker Rural Health Worker, Aanganwadi and ASHA worker. 
  • BSc in Nursing: Four years of training with University examination and RN RM certification. 
  • MSc in Nursing: Two years of master’s degree

Apart from these four qualification levels, GNM nurses can take up a Post Basic Nursing course to be qualified as BSc Nurses. Nurses after completing an MSc in nursing and after two years of professional experience can also take up a PhD in Nursing.

Qualities of a Qualified Nurse

A nurse as a professional is entitled to patient care along with acting as an excellent team player. She has to coordinate with the doctors, patients’ relatives, head nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapist, and other members of the health care team. More than prompt patient care, she should also be pertinent in prompt documentation to avoid legal issues. It is mandatory to work in shifts and to work for many hours straight when entitled to intensive care for critically ill patients. Q:   I have appeared for the NEET UG exam, do I need to apply for AIIMS Nursing 2024 exam?

A:

Yes, candidates have to appear for the AIIMS nursing 2024 entrance exam because NEET UG is not accepted by the AIIMS for nursing courses. AIIMS Delhi conducted a separate exam for granting admission to AIIMS BSc nursing program

Q:   Who is eligible to apply for AIIMS Nursing 2024 BSc Nursing Course?

A:
Candidates who have cleared Class 12 exams or equivalent exams from a recognised board with Physics Chemistry Biology and English subjects and have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate in class 12 and SC/ST category candidates should have secured 50 per cent in aggregate. For B.Sc. (Post basic) nursing, candidates possessing a Diploma in GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) from any Indian Nursing Council recognised institution are eligible to apply.

Q:   Who can apply for JENPAS UG exam?

A:

A candidate must be a citizen of India. The applicant must be domiciled in the state of West Bengal. The candidate must have passed or must be appearing for 10+2/class 12 in system only in 2025. The applicant's age must be 17 years as on 31.12.2025. The applicant should have been born on or before 31/12/2008. Only female candidates are eligible to apply for the BSc nursing course in both government colleges.

  • Choose a relevant nursing course: The ANM course is not much preferred by multi-specialty hospitals. They can, however, work as nursing assistants in small nursing homes. GNM, BSc, and MSc are the best-preferred courses to grab good job opportunities in India and abroad.
  • Secure admission: Admission is based on the 10+2 marks and entrance examination marks. Selected candidates are offered admission after counseling.
  • Registering with state nursing councils: After completing the nursing training, it is mandatory to take state nursing and central nursing licensure. This licensing process varies from state to state, it is also important to get membership from INC and Trained Nurses Association of India (TNAI). The nurse is not legally allowed to start working in a hospital before taking licensing certifications as a registered nurse (RN) and a registered midwife (RM).

Nursing poses a tremendous scope for qualified Indian nurses within the country and abroad in countries such as Australia, Canada, USA, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UK, etc. These countries appoint BSc and MSc nurses with a minimum of two years of clinical work experience in a 200-bed hospital. They are also required to clear exams such as TOEFL, NCLEX - RN, IELTS, CGFNS, etc., to get the work Visa.

Q:   I have appeared for the NEET UG exam, do I need to apply for KGMU BSc nursing 2024 exam?

A:

Yes, KGMU Lucknow conducts a separate entrance exam for granting admission to the BSc nursing programme. The NEET UG aspirants are required to separately appear for the KGMU BSc nursing entrance exam in order to seek admission to the top nursing institute of India.

Q:   How do I know if I am qualified for appearing in AIIMS Nursing 2024 exam?

A:

The candidates who secure the qualifying marks as per the cutoff will be considered qualified. The qualifying status of the candidates is mentioned on the AIIMS Nursing 2024 result. 

Q:   Who all are eligible to apply for KGMU Nursing 2023 for BSc Nursing Course?

A:

Candidates who have cleared class 12 exams or equivalent exams from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English subjects and have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate in class 12 and SC/ST category candidates should have secured 50 per cent in aggregate. Minimum age for admission is 17 years on or before 31st December 2023. The maximum age limit for admission is 35 years for Unreserved (UR), OBC, EWS, SC and ST, however the maximum Age for candidates with Physical Disability (PH) will be 40 years.

Q:   I live in Rajasthan. Can I choose Delhi as my AIIMS BSc nursing test center?

A:

Yes. An applicant is free to choose the test centre in any city of the country. However, it is advisable to select the centre city in the State of your residence. 

Q:   Who is eligible to appear for WB ANM GNM exam?

A:

A candidate need to fulfill eligibility conditions such as: A candidate must be age limit is 17 to 30 years old as of December 31st. Only female candidates are eligible to apply for the exam. The applicant must be an Indian citizen and must have resided continuously in the Gram Panchayat area of the concerned West Bengal district for at least 5 years prior to the application submission date. Candidate must be well-versed with Bengali and Nepali language.
