The Commission notified 17,727 vacancies for the SSC CGL 2024 exam. The SSC CGL 2024 Tier 1 exam will be conducted online in September/October 2024.
The SSC CGL application correction facility will be available on August 10 and 11. The Staff Selection Commission released the revised SSC CGL 2024 dates in its revised SSC Exam Calendar 2024-25. - University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued draft guidelines for training of faculty members in Indian Knowledge System (IKS)
- Courses include astronomy, Vedic mathematics, Indian economic history, lessons from the Mahabharata and Arthashastra, contributions of ancient and medieval Indians in chemistry and metallurgy, and ayurveda, etc.

- District Tourism Promotion Council, Kozhikode has applied for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Beypore Uru (boat)

Traditional Knowledge Digital Library
- Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts and the CSIR-TKDL signed a Memorandum of Understanding

- The intention is to protect and preserve manuscript knowledge

Zonal Cultural Centres
- Zonal Cultural Centres (ZCCs) have been set up by the Union Culture Ministry in order to conserve and develop art, culture and crafts across the country

- Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill 2022 tend to amend Energy Conservation Act 2001

National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC)

- Financial Literacy and Inclusion survey was conducted by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

Social Stock Exchange (SSE)
- SEBI granted its final approval for introducing Social Stock Exchange (SSE) as a separate segment on BSE

- Not-for-profit organisations (NPOs) and for-profit social enterprises with social intent and impact as their primary goal can participate in the SSE
- Eligible activities include:

The UPSC IAS 2024 notification was released on February 14, 2024. The notification included important dates, the number of vacancies, the syllabus, and all the criteria for appearing in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. SSC CHSL 2024 dates have been announced by the Staff Selection Commission. The SSC CHSL exam 2024 Tier 1 will be held from July 1 to 12, 2024. The SSC CHSL 2024 Tier 1 exam will be held on July 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, 2024. The exact SSC CHSL exam date 2024 will be intimated to candidates through their admit cards. Candidates need to download the admit card to know the allotted exam date and time for the SSC CHSL exam.
Q: Are the SSC MTS 2024 Dates Released?
Yes, the Staff Selection Commission released revised SSC MTS 2024 application and exam dates in its official SSC 2024 exam calendar (new). The Commission released the SSC MTS 2024 notification on June 27, 2024. The last date to apply for the SSC MTS Havaldar 2024 exam was August 3, 2024. The Staff Selection Commission will conduct the SSC MTS 2024 exam online as a Computer-Based Exam (CBE) from September 30 to November 14, 2024.
The Commission was schedule to release the SSC MTS 2024 notification on May 7 but it was not released. Along with the notification, the Commission will also start the SSC MTS 2024 applications.
Q: Will there be SSC GD exam in 2025?
Yes, there will be the SSC GD Constable exam in 2025. The Commission has notified the dates for the conduct of the Constable (GD) in CAPFs, SSF and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles and Sepoy in Narcotics Control Bureau Examination, 2025. The SSC GD Constable 2025 recruitment exam will be held from February 4 to 25, 2025. The SSC GD 2025 notification was released on September 5, 2024.
Q: What were the SSC CGL 2023 Tier 2 Dates?
The Staff Selection Commission released the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam dates on August 19. But later the Commission while releasing the SSC CGL admit card declared that SSC CGL Tier 2 exam will be conducted on October 26 ad 27. The Commission will conduct the SSC CGL 2023 Tier 2 exam as a Computer-Based Exam (CBE) at the designated exam centres. The Commission is expected to release the SSC CGL Tier 2 admit card from October 20 onwards.
SSC CGL 2023 Tier 1 exam was conductd from July 4 to 27 and the tentative answer key was released on August 1. The Commission is expected to release the SSC CGL 2023 Tier 1 result soon on its official website - ssc.nic.in.
- SEBI has proposed a framework for index providers
- The framework aims at improving transparency and accountability in governance and administration of the financial benchmarks or indices in the domestic securities market
- What is an index? It is a method that measures changes in values of a group of securities. These securities form part of this index
- Functions include:
- Understanding the health of the market
- Study the market sentiment
- Enable performance measurement and benchmarking
- As per the framework, index provider shall be a legal entity incorporated under Companies Act in the country of origin. It must have a minimum net worth of Rs 25 crore
- An oversight committee must be constituted by the index provider to review the existing design of the index
- Index provider must have policies and procedures to manage conflicts of interest
- Index provider also needs to make available publicly, the methodology for index calculation
- Index providers must be assessed by independent external auditors so that its adherence to International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) principles can be evaluated
Decline in Exports

Remittances
- As per Migration and Development Brief, World Bank, India’s remittance will grow 12% and will result in $100 billion flow

CAFE Score
- CAFE stands for Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) score
- It refers to a limit that is imposed on the total CO2 emissions. It is imposed on a carmaker’s entire fleet, instead of individual model
- If a company violates mandated Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) score, it will have to pay heavy fines
- As per the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill 2022, if a company violates fleet emission scores, it will pay a fine of Rs. 25,000 crore per car sold
- The Bill also mandates the use non-fossil fuels by industries, set efficiency standards for vehicles, ships and equipment, and create domestic carbon trading market in order to hasten the green transition

- India assumed presidency of two global bodies in December 2022: G20 and UNSC

- Each of its 15 member states assume its presidency for a duration of one month, following the English alphabetical order

Wassenaar Arrangement
- India will assume the chairmanship of the Wassenaar arrangement on 1st January 2023
- Wassenaar arrangement is a multilateral export control regime wherein member states exchange information on various issues like transfer of conventional arms
- Its genesis is traced back to 1996
- It has 42 members
- Wassenaar Arrangement operates on a voluntary basis and decisions are made by consensus
Every six months, members exchange information on deliveries of conventional arms to non-Wassenaar members that fall under eight broad weapon categories: battle tanks, armored combat vehicles (ACVs), large-caliber artillery, military aircraft/unmanned aerial vehicles, military and attack helicopters, warships, missiles or missile systems, and small arms and light weapons.

- Pfizer Inc said that its experimental gene therapy for the treatment of haemophilia B met its main goal in a late-stage study
- Haemophilia B is an inherited medical condition that hampers the body’s ability to clot the blood. Body’s ability to make factor IX (blood-clotting protein) gets hampered
- Current treatments require regular infusions of factor IX. However, Pfizer's therapy, fidanacogene elaparvovec, helps a patient in producing factor IX themselves after a one-time treatment

Pralay Missile
- It is an indigenous short-range ballistic surface-to-surface missile

Brain-eating Amoeba
- South Korea reported its first case of infection from Naegleria fowleri or “brain-eating amoeba”
- Naegleria is an amoeba, a single-celled organism, that can infect humans
- It was first discovered in Australia in 1965 and is commonly found in warm freshwater bodies, such as hot springs, rivers and lakes
- It enters human body through the nose and then travels up to the brain
- It can destroy brain tissues and causes a dangerous infection known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM)
GaN Nanostructures
- Researchers have come up with a new method to confine and absorb infrared (IR) light with GaN nanostructures

Nai Roshni Scheme
- During the last three years (2019-20 to 2021-22), around 40,000 women have been trained all over India under the Nai Roshni Scheme
- Nai Roshni scheme has now been merged as a component of Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) scheme with an aim to improve livelihoods of minorities, particularly artisan communities, through skill development, education and leadership training, to support their entrepreneurship interventions
Social Progress Index (SPI)
- Social Progress Index (SPI) for States and Districts was made by the Institute for Competitiveness and Social Progress Imperative
- The index assesses states and districts based on 12 components across three critical dimensions of social progress: Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Wellbeing, and Opportunity
- Basic Human Needs parameters include: Nutrition and Basic Medical Care, Water and Sanitation, Personal Safety and Shelter. Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Chandigarh are the top four states.
- Foundations of Wellbeing parameters include: Access to Basic Knowledge, Access to Information and Communication, Health and Wellness, and Environmental Quality. Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and Goa are the best-performing states.
- Opportunity parameters include: Personal Rights, Personal Freedom and Choice, Inclusiveness, and Access to Advanced Education. Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Sikkim have performed well here.
- Puducherry has the highest SPI score due to its performance on Personal Freedom and Choice, Shelter, and Water and Sanitation
- Jharkhand and Bihar scored the lowest

- Ministry of Tribal Affairs has revamped the Scheme of Special Central Assistance to Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsha Gram Yojana
- The motive behind the scheme was to transform villages with significant tribal population into model village (Adarsh Gram). These villages would have covered a population of 4.22 crore, which comprises of nearly 40% of the total Tribal population
- Details:
- Achieve integrated socio-economic development of selected villages through convergence approach
- Village Development Plan based on the needs, potential, and aspirations
- Maximizing the coverage of individual / family benefit schemes of the Central / State Governments
- Improving the infrastructure in vital sectors like health, education, connectivity and livelihood
- Mitigate gaps, prominently in 8 sectors of development: Road connectivity (Internal and Inter-village /block), Telecom connectivity (Mobile /internet), School, Anganwadi Centres, Health Sub-Centre, Drinking water facility, Drainage and solid waste management

- Social Hostilities Index was released by the US think-tank Pew Research Center
- India’s Social Hostilities Index (SHI) in 2020 was 9.4 out of 10
- SHI measures acts of religious hostility by private individuals, organizations or groups. The index includes 13 metrics
Mental Health and Social Care Policy: Meghalaya
- Meghalaya Mental Health & Social Care Policy aims to address the issues of mental health and social care
- It involves collaborative engagement with communities
- Besides Meghalaya, Kerala and Karnataka are the other two states in India to have such policies

- Promote overall mental health and well-being
- Facilitate appropriate access and care pathways for common and severe mental health concerns
- Reduce the extent of disability, morbidity, mortality, and social suffering
Maternal Mortality Rate
- Maternal Mortality Rate has decreased from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20
- Kerala has performed the best in maternal and child health. It has recorded the lowest Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in the country at 19 deaths per one lakh live births
- National MMR is 97 deaths per one lakh live births
- Assam has the highest MMR of 195 deaths per one lakh live births
- As per WHO, Maternal Mortality Rate is defined as the number of maternal deaths during a given time period per 100,000 live births during the same time period
Tribal Development Report 2022
- Tribal Development Report 2022 was launched by the Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation (BRLF)
- Central India is home to 80% of the tribal communities in the country
- Indigenous communities of India have been pushed farther away from alluvial plains and fertile river basins into the harshest ecological regions of the country like hills, forests, and drylands. Out of 257 Scheduled Tribe districts, 230 are located in forest, hilly, or dry regions

- Stay Safe Online campaign and the Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA) programme were launched
- Digital Innovation Alliance (DIA) programme is the first ever programme that was launched worldwide as a G-20 intitiative
- DIA programme will have 174 start-ups from member countries
- It focuses on providing digital solutions in six key sectors: Edtech, Healthtech, Agritech, Fintech, secured digital infrastructure and circular economy
- Stay Safe Online campaign aims to raise awareness about cyber risks and the need for cyber hygiene
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- Railways will renovate 1,000 small stations under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme
- Key updations include provisions for roof top plazas, longer platforms, ballastless tracks, and 5G connectivity
- Zonal railways will select the stations, which will be approved by a committee of senior railway officials
- Estimate for each station is Rs 10-20 crore
- The scheme also aims as relocating redundant or old buildings
Right to Repair Portal
- On the 'right to repair' portal, manufacturers will share the manual of product details with customers so that they could either repair the product by themselves and by third parties, rather than depend on original manufacturers
- Initially, mobile phones, electronics, consumer durables, automobile and farming equipment will be covered

- Orunodoi is a scheme of the Government of Assam that was launched on 2nd October 2020
- Government of Assam provides monthly financial assistance to the eligible beneficiaries for procuring medicines, pulses, and sugar
