Methane Emission

  • Methane emissions are expected to increase by 13% by 2030 if there is no Global Methane Pledge

Aerosol Pollution

  • A new study has found that India’s regional weather patterns and topography makes the country highly vulnerable to aerosol pollution
  • Excess infant deaths due to aerosols in India were estimated to be three million
  • Crop output declined 12.5 tonnes due to aerosol pollution
  • Aerosols include: black carbon, organic carbon, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds and sulfur dioxide
  • Reasons why India has more vulnerability:
    • Regional weather patterns and topography cause the aerosols to stay local
    • Himalayas partially act as a geographic barrier to ventilation
    • Emissions from other regions can more easily change the temperature and rainfall patterns in India
    • Other issues include large and vulnerable infant population and extensive areas under agricultural production
  • Aerosols emitted with carbon dioxide can increase the social cost by 66%. Here, it refers to an estimate of the economic costs of greenhouse gases

Srilanka declared Food Emergency
