Every year lakhs of candidates apply and appear for the various bank exams in India such as IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS RRB, SBI PO, SBI Clerk, RBI Grade B, RBI Assistant, and many more. However, only a few manage to crack the bank exams and get a final appointment. Shiksha approached some students who have cracked bank exams to know how they have prepared for it. Candidates who have qualified the bank exams are of the opinion that dedication, consistency, determination, hard work and good preparation strategy are the key factors to ace the various exams.

Gaurav Anijwal, had cracked SBI Clerk 2019 exam in first attempt with three months of preparation. To get there, he studied the syllabus, referred to good books and attempted mock tests. He said, “I cracked SBI Clerk exam with three months of preparation. During my initial phase of preparation, I took coaching to understand the exam format. I left coaching and had done self-study.”

“Students should believe in their own preparation. Only patience and smart work will help students to attain success in the exam. Studying for three to four hours is enough to clear the exam. It is important to solve the mock tests as it will help them to analyse the performance in the exam,” Gaurav further said. 

How Can I Become Topper in Bank Exams?

To begin with the preparation for various banking exams, candidates must be thorough with the exam pattern and syllabus. Bank exams for PO and SO are conducted in three phases-prelims, mains and interview. The bank exams for the Clerical level are conducted in two stages-prelims and mains. The prelims and mains exams are basically computer-based tests containing multiple choice type questions. The subjects included in bank exams are-Numerical Ability / Quantitative Aptitude, General English, Reasoning Ability, Computer Knowledge and General Awareness. The tips and tricks to crack bank exams are given below:

  • Be thorough with the syllabus
  • Try to learn as many concepts as possible.
  • Remember, planning before study is very important. Prepare a daily routine to provide time for each area.
  • Solve previous years’ bank question papers
  • Practice Reasoning section regularly
  • Instead of merely memorising try to understand the subjects
  • Learn shortcut methods in Quantitative Aptitude for scoring high marks 
  • Improve grammar and vocabulary for English

Abhishek Chowdhury, Cleared IBPS RRB exam in 2016, Shared his Tips on Cracking the Exam

Abhishek Chowdhury, a Mass Communication and Journalism grad, has cracked IBPS RRB 2016 exam with 92 marks out of 200. He is currently working as an Assistant Manager in Tripura Gramin Bank. He said, “There is no alternative to hard work and regular practice. It took me one and a half years to clear the exam. One needs to identify his strong area and try to score as much as possible in that section. At the same time, candidates should equally work on improving their weak areas. Attempting mock tests gives you a real-time exam feeling and helps you handling the exam pressure.”

SBI PO 2019: Tinkeshwari Swami shares her preparation strategy

Tinkeshwari Swami, currently working in SBI, Kota, had qualified SBI PO 2019 in her first attempt with no coaching. Her overall marks in prelims was 86. In mains, she had secured 108.48 marks. In Interview, she scored 43 marks. She said, “Ideal time to prepare for the exam is three to four months prior to the release of notification. Usually, six months of preparation is advisable. Students should be focused on their preparation, be clear with the concepts and improve speed and accuracy.”

"I have taken atleast 50 mock tests. These tests are very important as it helps in time management and building accuracy. Students should dedicate three to four hours a day to study," she added. Read here the complete interview.
