Role of IBPS in Bank Recruitment
The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection or IBPS is a government-owned recruitment body entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the major bank exams in the country. Through the various exams conducted by IBPS, candidates are recruited to the post of Probationary Officers (PO), Specialist Officers (SO), Clerks in the Public Sector banks as well as Regional Rural Banks. There are 11 public sector banks in India and 43 Regional Rural Banks participating in the recruitment process conducted by IBPS. The various exams conducted by IBPS include IBPS PO, IBPS SO, IBPS Clerk and IBPS RRB.
IBPS Selection process is different for different exams. For eg: IBPS Clerk selection process includes prelims and mains exams. IBPS PO selection process comprises prelims, mains and interview. What is the Role of IBPS in Bank Recruitment?
IBPS provides its service to all Public Sector Banks such as SBI, RBI, NABARD and IDBI. In addition, Regional Rural Banks, SIDBI, LIC & General Insurance Companies, Co-Operative Banks, many Public Sector Undertakings in Non-Financial sectors, government departments, State owned companies and corporations also avail its services. During the year 2022-2023, a total of 87.60 lakh candidates registered for various IBPS examinations. The details regarding the various IBPS exams are given below:
IBPS PO
IBPS PO exam is conducted every year for recruitment to the post of Probationary Officer/Management Trainee (PO/MT) in 11 Public Sector Banks in India. IBPS CRP PO/MT exam comprises the preliminary exam, mains exam, and interview. In 2022-23, a total of 6.52 lakh candidates had registered for the IBPS PO exam. Out of which 4.61 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam. The basic IBPS PO salary is INR 36,000. Besides, candidates get other allowances such as Dearness Allowance(DA), House Rent Allowance(HRA), City Compensatory Allowance (CCA), and Special Allowances. The pay scale is INR 23,700-(980 / 7)-30,560-(1145 / 2)-32,850-(1310 / 7)-42,020 (INR 980 is the annual increment that add up to the IBPS PO salary and is applicable for seven years).
IBPS Clerk
IBPS Clerk exam is conducted annually to recruit candidates for the post of Clerks in the Public Sector Banks. The selection process of IBPS Clerk include prelims and mains exams. IBPS Clerk salary is INR 28,000 to 30,000 per month. The starting basic salary is INR 19, 900 including dearness allowance, house rent allowance, medical allowance, and transport allowance.
IBPS SO
IBPS SO exam to recruit Specialist Officers in various public sector banks. Candidates selected through IBPS SO exam are recruited to the various posts, such as Agriculture Field Officer, Marketing Officer, HR/Personnel Officer, IT Officer, Law Officer, and Rajbhasha Adhikari. Selection of candidates is done in three phases-prelims, mains, and personal interview.
IBPS RRB
IBPS RRB recruitment is conducted by IBPS to select candidates for Officers Scale 1, 2 & 3 and Office Assistant (Multipurpose). Recruitment is carried out for various Group A and B posts. The posts announced under IBPS RRB exam are given below.

For Officer level posts, candidates are selected based on preliminary exam, mains/single-level exam, and interview. For Office Assistant (Multipurpose)/Clerk post, candidates are selected based on preliminary and mains exams. Candidates provisionally shortlisted are allotted to one of the participating RRBs based on the number of vacancies and merit-cum-preference.
