National and International Events have gained importance in the recent years. Current Affairs cannot be prepared in a short span of time. Candidates must prepare current affairs of at least 1 year preceeding the date of the exam. In some exams, such as UPSC, current affairs can date back to 1.5 to 2 years as well.

Current Affairs also influence other sections of the General Knowledge/Studies. A topic in news can be easily linked to its static part. Thus, along with the current affairs, it is equally important to study the corresponding static topics.
