Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts various exams round the year to recruit candidates for various Central Ministries and departments. The recruitment is also done for certain positions in India Posts. The SSC is also an attached office to the Ministry of Personnel and equivalent to UPSC in the operational sense. It is the premier government recruitment organisation for Group C posts (non-technical). It also recruits the candidates of Group B post carrying the pay scale of INR 9300 to 34800 with grade pay of INR 42000. SSC CHSL: The SSC CHSL exam is conducted to recruit candidates in posts such as Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Postal Assistant (PA), Sorting Assistant (SA) and Data Entry Operator (DEO). SSC CPO: This exam is conducted to shortlist candidates for the post of Sub-Inspector (SI) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). The exam is held in four stages – paper-I (online test), PET/PST, paper-II (offline test) and Detailed Medical Exam (DME).

The government of India proposed the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) as a common recruitment agency to conduct the Common Eligibility Test for the central government positions, bank clerks and some other equivalent posts where the syllabus for the preliminary exam is common.
