Google set to invest 75000 crores in India
Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced to invest 10 billion US dollars in India on July 13, 2020 in the Google for India virtual event. This investment could give impetus to the vernacular content discovery and development in India. The enormous investment will also focus on the digital transformation of the local businesses in India.
He also stressed the use of Artificial intelligence in the Health and education sector.
Russia claimed to be the first country to complete human trials
Russia’s Sechenov University Moscow has claimed that they have completed the human trial of COVID-19 vaccine. Russian news agency TASS shared the details about the COVID-19 vaccine trials on human volunteers. The news agency stated that the first stage of trials started on June 18 when a group of 18 volunteers got vaccinated. The second set kicked off with 20 volunteers vaccinated on June 23.
India became the second-largest source of FDI in the United Kingdom (UK)
In an official communication of the Department for International Trade (DIT) inward investment statistics for 2019-2020 found India became the second-largest source of Foreign Direct Investment in the United Kingdom (UK). India invested in 120 projects and created 5,429 fresh jobs in the UK. US remains the number one source of FDI for the UK.
Travancore Royal family to administer Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple: Supreme Court
Supreme Court on July 13, uphold the rights of erstwhile Travancore Royal family to administer the operations of the temple. The Supreme Court observed that the death of the ruler does not result in escheatment of property in favour of the government despite the 26th Amendment (to terminate the privy purses and privileges of the Rulers of former Indian States) of the Constitution of India.
The court, however, appointed a committee in the chairmanship of the district judge who will continue as the administrative head. Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is one of the richest temples in the country located in Kerala.
Home Minister Amit Shah launched CAPF tree plantation drive
Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, on July 12, launched the nationwide Central Armed Police Force’s (CAPFs) nationwide tree plantation drive at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) campus in Gurugram. He planted a Peepal tree sapling in the campus. CAPF includes the CRPF, BSF, CISF and ITBP.
The collective target of this initiative is to plant over 1.35 crore saplings by July 2020.
Singapore Elections 2020: People’s Action Party (PAP) retained power
The Singapore ruling party People’s Action Party (PAP), which is in power since 1965, won the Singapore election 2020, though with a reduced number of seats. The PAP won 83 of the 93 parliamentary seats in the country. The opposition Workers’ Party secured 10 seats.
This victory means that the current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will remain in office for another term. He is the son of the country’s founding father and long-time ruler Lee Kuan Yew.
Mr Lee Hsien Loong has been in office since 2004.
Reliance will get 730 crores from Qualcomm for 0.15 per cent stake in Jio Platforms
Reliance Industries announced that Qualcomm Ventures, the investing arm of Qualcomm, bought a 0.15 per cent stake in Jio Platforms for 730 crores. Qualcomm will be the third strategic investor in Jio, after Facebook Inc. and US’s company Intel.
Qualcomm, headquartered at San Diego, California, is one of the world’s leading wireless technology and mobile chip-making company.
Mukesh Ambani became the 7th Richest Person in the world
Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries, has become the world’s 7th richest person after overtaking investor tycoon Warren Buffett in terms of net worth.
Amitabh Bacchan tested positive for COVID-19
Amitabh Bachhan, on July 11, tested positive to coronavirus along with his family. He was admitted to the Nanavati hospital in Mumbai. His son Abhishek Bacchan, Daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachhan and granddaughter Aradhya Bachhan were also found corona positive. Jaya Bacchan, her wife, was not found corona positive.
Tiger Census 2018 got the entry in Guinness Book of World Record
Tiger Census 2018, India’s tiger estimation, has entered the Guinness Book of World Record for being the largest camera-trap wildlife exercise. India had 2,967 Tigers as per the Tiger census 2018. More than half of them are in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
Since 2006, the government of India has been conducting the census every four years. The Tiger census in India is led by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) with cooperation from various state forest departments.
