The re-exam is to be held on January 14. Moreover, students will be able to retain the improved marks from the two exams they have taken.

In one-of-its-kind instance, Mumbai University is going to conduct a re-exam on account of handing out incorrect exam papers to MSc students for the exam conducted on December 13. In a number of centres, question paper in the old syllabus was provided to regular MSc Physics students, however, repeaters were handed question paper in the new syllabus. Regular students had claimed that approximately 50% of their 60-mark paper on ‘Statistical Mechanics’ was having questions from the old syllabus. Hundreds of students are bound to bear the burden of the pronouncement.

The board of examinations of Mumbai University took this decision in a meeting that took place on December 26, 2019. The re-exam is to be held on January 14. Moreover, students will be able to retain the improved marks from the two exams they have taken.

However, many students were concerned about the re-exam and said that conducting a re-exam is partial as a whole lot of students won’t be able to cope up with the stress again.  There was an incongruity in the subject code stated on the paper and in the hall-ticket. This kind of discrepancy is pure carelessness on the part of the establishments. They opined that a re-exam is not an appropriate resolution for students.

Nonetheless, an official of Mumbai University said that conducting the exam again was the best resolution for the students. He said that at several centres, students were given the right paper. Finding the number of students who were affected could have been a really tough task, he said. Apart from this, some students could have challenged the conclusion to offer 50 per cent marks to all students.
