This year NIRF rankings have a new category, “Research Institutions”, where institutions will be ranked based on their research activities. 6,000 institutes participated in the ranking this year.
NIRF Ranking 2021: The Ministry of Education has released the NIRF Indian Ranking 2021 today; i.e September 9. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the NIRF Ranking 2021, the sixth annual ranking list, of top colleges and Universities at a virtual event. As per the NIRF Indian Ranking 2021, this year too, IISc Bangalore has bagged the first position in NIRF Rankings 2021 released for top universities in India.
Other universities following IISc Bangalore in NIRF Ranking are Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at Rank 2, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Rank 3, Calcutta University at Rank 4, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at Rank 5.
It must be noted that most of the universities which have found a place in the top 10 are the same as the ones ranked in 2020.
In the NIRF university ranking 2021, the top four institutions have been the same for the past three years. This year, Jamia Millia Islamia has overtaken Jadavpur University to the 5th spot.

NIRF Rankings 2021: Categories
The Universities are ranked in 10 categories including Top University, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, College, Medical, Law, Architecture, Dental and Overall. This is the first time that the ranking will be released for the Research Institutions category too.
