177 Indians take to the US for Fulbright programme

The 2012-2013 academic session will have 177 Indian scholars from different parts of the country participate in the Fulbright programme conducted by the US-India Educational Foundation (USIEF), reported The Times of India. According to the Foundation, the programme aims to foster mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

 

These Indian scholars will undertake Fulbright projects in the US across various disciplines including energy, agriculture, economics, education, environment, international relations, management, etc.

 

The Fulbright scholarship is a flagship international exchange scholarship programme between the US and 155 countries. Indians have opportunities in three categories enabling meritorious students, academics and professionals to pursue studies, research and skill development. Know more about Fulbright Programme

 

This year, Hyderabad is the chosen destination by the USIEF for organizing the pre-departure orientation for Fulbright scholars. It'll be held during May 13-15. (Read more)

 

US Consul General Jennifer McIntyre told TOI that India is the largest beneficiary of Fulbright scholar exchange programmes in the world. The foundation has awarded over 17,000 fellowships and other grants to Indians and Americans since its inception in 1950. (Read complete story)
