Delhi University (DU) has launched its new meta college course – B.Tech in Humanities – in the North Campus in August this year. About 300 students have applied for the course. The course will be offered by the Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC). Since the course has a unique concept, Delhi University held an Open Day to address the queries of students applying for the course on August 8, 2012. Read more about meta-college here

B.Tech in Humanities has duration of four years. It gives importance to hands-on experience and has five specializations - media studies, art and design, historical tourism, education and counselling. Unlike the BA degree of Delhi University, B.Tech in Humanities will give 50 per cent weightage to project work. Know more

The students of meta-college will be at liberty to tailor their own course and choose from a range of subjects. Mentors will guide students in this process. It is not necessary for students to choose engineering courses only. The term ‘B.Tech’ refers to technical knowledge of the subjects rather than an engineering degree.

Points to note

  • DU counsellors advise that students should select subjects judiciously so that their classes do not clash.
  • Students cannot join the second year of the programme directly. So, if a student has already completed their first year from a DU college, they will have to drop the year and start this course afresh.
  • While traditional programmes allow students to study only a fixed number of courses, the meta-college programme will allow them to pick and choose courses from other subjects too.
