40 new courses at BB Ambedkar University
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), one of the country’s central universities, is all set to launch 40 new courses from the academic session 2013-14. These include MA, M.Sc, M.Phil, PhD, M.Tech and PG diploma; and out of these, five masters and one M.Tech courses have received the go ahead by the council.
The courses starting from academic session 2013-14 are:
- MSc in industrial microbiology
- MSc in food microbiology and toxicology
- MSc in nanoscience and nanotechnology
- Masters in Hindi
- Masters in education
- MTech in energy and environment
Half of the proposed courses are expected to begin from the next academic session if only the university meets the requirements of various departments in terms of faculty, non-teaching staff and infrastructure to begin the new courses. Subsequently, with an aim to meet the industry requirements and generate employment opportunities, the university also has plans to launch the following courses:
- MBA in marketing management
- MA/MSc in fashion technology
- One year LLM
- Five-year integrated BA-LLB
The decision to start these courses was taken at the meeting of the academic council under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor R C Sobti on March 5, 2013.
Upshots of the meeting:
- Proposal to launch two new schools – School for Visual Arts and School for Education.
- Fee concession upto 50% to single girl child, and meritorious students from SC/ST and BPL (below poverty line) categories
- One additional seat in all courses for meritorious candidates from BPL families
- Final year PG students allowed to appear in the PhD entrance test
- University to provide course work to PhD degree holders, only if they wish
- Pursuing course not made compulsory for PhD degree holders
