The University of Delhi (DU), established in 1922, through its Faculty of Education provided a Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed). Faculty of Education is one of the first institutions of professional learning and research in Education that was established immediately after Independence.
All colleges under the DU release their notification for the entrance regarding the entrance exam it conducts for its two-year B.Ed program in the month of May-June. B.Ed from DU is a popular choice all over India and tough competition occurs between the applicants. Here's all you need to know about this program.

A full-time professional teacher education program can be pursued by a student after have completed their graduation or postgraduation studies.
There are four institutions where the university would help you in completing your B.Ed from DU:
- Maharshi Valmiki College of Education (MVCE)
- Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women (SPMC)
- Lady Irwin College (LIC)
- Central Institute of Education (CIE)
Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women and the Lady Irwin College are the only colleges that are exclusively meant for women. The other two colleges MVCE and CIE are co-education institutes.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission in B.Ed from DU
Applicants who are interested in admission to complete B.Ed from DU have to fulfill both criteria A and B which are given below:
Minimum Qualifying Marks
Category-I: Applicants with at least 50 percent either in Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Master’s Degree in Science/Social Science/Humanities, Bachelor’s in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics or degree in any other stream with a minimum aggregate 55 percent marks are eligible to apply.
Category II: Applicants, who have scored a minimum 55 percent aggregate marks in their Bachelor’s degree for B.E./B. Tech and have specialization subjects of Mathematics and Science or any other qualification with a 55 percent aggregate score or equivalent are eligible to apply.

The candidate will have to choose only one teaching subject (within a subject category) from Table 1 which they must have studied in the qualifying degree i.e., in their graduation or postgraduation. They have to also score 50 percent marks in the entrance exam for B.Ed.
The candidate would have to choose a subject as mentioned above for the entrance exam and that subject will be the main subject in their B.Ed degree course for two years. Some of the main subjects available for B.Ed from DU are listed below:
- Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Home Science, Integrated Science
- Languages: Sanskrit, Hindi, English
- Social Science: History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Social Science
- Other subjects: Commerce, Psychology, Sociology, Punjabi & Urdu
Home Science will be offered only in LIC. Only candidates who have studied B.Sc Home Science are eligible.

Selection Process
The selection process for the desired candidates in the B.Ed from DU program is done through several rules and regulations as given below:
- The admissions for the B.Ed from DU the done through the scores of applicants in the entrance examinations. The merit will be prepared based on scores obtained in the Written Test where the students are tested out of 400 marks examination.
- The test will be of two hours duration.
- The question paper shall consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of four marks each. The test even includes negative marking where for each wrong answer one mark is reduced from the total marks obtained by the applicant for all his right answers.
- There would be a common entrance test for all candidates where they would be tested on various subjects of science, mathematics, and social and environmental science. The exams will be based on concepts at the school level.
- A language paper test would also be included in the entrance examination which would also include comprehensive abilities of students in Hindi and English.
- Subjects such as economic issues, teaching aptitude, general awareness of political and social topics and reasoning will be included in the B.Ed from DU entrance examination.
