It is a news to rejoice, as meritorious students in Delhi University might get an opportunity to explore the world from the new session. In a welcome move, Delhi University has decided to send three batches of 25 students, for study tours in China, Australia, Colombo, Dhaka and Kathmandu this October. For this, DU will undertake a selection process after classes resume in July.

A majority of these students selected from DU colleges, will be from economically weaker section. According to university officials, second- and third-year students will be sent abroad for study tours from October 1 to 15. Moreover, the university will shortly write to Ministry of External Affairs and the embassies of these countries in this regard.

Delhi University Study Tours will encompass undergraduate students only who will be selected through a transparent selection process. Under this, students will be required to write a 100-200-word-long piece on ‘why they should get this opportunity or how will it help them grow'. Apart from this, their result of first year will also be given weightage. The official also said that through Delhi University Study Tours, the university wants to give exposure to students who are unable to afford such study ventures.

DU is going through talks with the Australia-India Institute in Melbourne for hosting the first batch of students going from Delhi University. The best part is that students will not be required to pay anything for this tour. Also, the cost will partly be borne by the university and partly by the institute. Efforts are also going on to invite students from European countries to come to the university in December.

Of late, Delhi University has sent its young faculty members to European universities to pursue one-year master programmes in emerging disciplines. This in turn will help them to add value to the existing courses in the university. Nearly two batches of teachers have already gone abroad for this programme.
