DES to offer Diploma in American Studies
Entrants seeking to pursue a career in foreign services or higher studies in the US can opt for a diploma course in American studies launched by the Deccan Education Society (DES). DES, a Pune-based premier academic organisation has entered into a formal agreement with American Center, Mumbai to kick-off this one-of-a kind six-month post-std XII program.
Set to be launched on September 3, 2012, the program will offer insight into the socio-political, economic and cultural aspects of the United States.
The course was structured considering the number of students going to US every year and facing complexities ranging from communication to food habits which affected their academic performance. With an understanding of American culture, the course is expected to assist students in defeating these challenges. (Read more)
Comprising visiting faculties from field of American studies, the program will be imparted at Fergusson College campus four days a week in the evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm. The initial intake of students for this diploma course will be 40 and the study material will be provided by the American Centre.
Vikas Kakatkar, Vice chairman of DES said “During our recent visit to the US, the representatives of the alliance pointed out that close to six lakh students from India apply for higher studies in US and at least 60,000 of them actually land in US for studies. However, several of these students end up with psychological problems owing to inadequate knowledge about US culture, food habits, inter-personal relations etc.,", reported TOI.(Read complete story)
