A Chennai educational services firm, EdServ Softsystems, has landed in the Limca Book of Records for launching 24,000 pin code-wise websites at one go in India last year. This was made possible due to a mobile app for Smartphone users created by EdServ, called Hum Thum, which allowed them to create their own websites.

Hum Thum was primarily meant for providing educational support services to students on mobile including tutor search, assessments, providing career services, and clearing doubts. Features of Hum Thum such as a talking dictionary that can tell meaning of the spoken word have become quite popular with young users.

This mobile application also has a bar code reader, feature to turn mobile camera into a scanner, and a PDF converter to convert images into PDF.

Hum Thum also allows people to upload and share information by creating their own websites, which proved a handy tool for local entrepreneurs who could just post classifieds on mobile users in their neighbouring areas.

By launching 24,000 pin-code wise websites, Hum Thum now holds the national record for being the largest e-commerce network in India. The app already has more than 1.5 lakh users. EdServ has partnered with Blackberry and Samsung and tied up with operators, such as Aircel and Tata Docomo to promote its educational content, which includes tuition, academics, skill development and test preparation services.

The company expects that the app will help 2 million students access its educational content. Read more...
