21 Fake Universities And 350 Educational Institutions Identified By UGC
UGC or University Grants Commission has identified 21 fake universities and educational institutions running across India. Out of these 21 institutes, 8 are in U.P., 6 in Delhi and one each in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Apart from this, AICTE has brought to light 350 unapproved institutions running technical and management courses against AICTE regulations. The lists of such institutions have been updated at the official websites of UGC and AICTE.

Bangalore University Might Disaffiliate 20 Colleges
Bangalore University's Syndicate, highest decision making body at BU, might disaffiliate 20 of its institutes. The decision was taken by the university in wake of the fact that the colleges were not following the rules and regulations laid by the university.

Finance Takes Centerstage At IIM Placements
It was the call of prominent companies from the finance sector that made 31.3 percent of the offers during final placements at IIM Calcutta. All the 383 students were hired by banking heavyweights like UBS, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, and Bank of America. While on the other hand, students of IIM Kozhikode were offered varied profiles across Finance, Consulting, Sales & Marketing, Operations and HR. However, it was Finance sector which ruled and hired 33% graduates.

A Common Entrance Test For PG Programmes In Central Universities Likely
A panel of VCs has submitted its detailed report to the HRD minister Kapil Sibal, regarding the common admission procedure, applicable for all central universities across India. As per the proposed report, common entrance test (CET) might be conducted for various PG programmes including MPhil and PhD from upcoming session in 2011. Under this 50% weightage will be given to a student's academic record and remaining to the performance in CET.

Second-Year MBBS Students To Attend Patients
MBBS 2nd year students will be introduced to 'clerkship' in their curriculum, under which students will get an opportunity to go on-ward visits and carry out evening rounds with resident doctors. Currently training provided to medical students is classroom oriented, thus this new move will give them an opportunity to interact with patients and understand their illness in a better manner.

Fraud Aviation Institutes Under DGCA Scanner
According to aviation experts, the boom in civil aviation sector has tempted various candidates to resort to illegal methods and bribe DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) officials to clear the exams. Among the 40 DGCA certified flying training schools in country, 33 are currently running while several others are in a doubtful state. Flying schools at Baramati and Jaipur were also among the DGCA scanner for alleged irregularities in flying hours to hasten the training process.
