PMO Shifts Spotlight To Foreign Students
Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has come up with plans to come up with a screening test that judges a candidate's ability to easily tune into the Indian education system. The idea came after a recent meeting presided by the Principal Secretary to the PM, in which it was found that the academic standard of a majority of foreign students was not satisfactory and there was an urgent need for a proper and standard screening test that can determine their competitive ability.

University Of Chicago To Set Up Centre In Delhi
University of Chicago, one of the top universities of America has decided to set up a base in India. To materialize the idea, University of Chicago has been involved in talks with professors, experts and real estate agents. There are plans that the proposed base will be situated in the heart of New Delhi.

UK Imposes Restrictions On Student's Visa
As per the UK Border Agency director, students looking for a degree in UK will no longer be permitted to a two-year time to search jobs once their course ends. Also, the parameters for English language have also been changed and will come into effect from April 6, 2011. As per the new rule, students have to score over 87 as against 57 in the Internet base test of Test of English As a Foreign Language (TOEFEL), taken into account by some British universities.

Proposal For Private Medical Institutes To Set Up Foreign Campuses
As per the Health Ministry plan, private medical colleges would now be permitted to set up campuses overseas. The plan came after several medical institutions opposed MCI's move to reject setting up of campuses abroad. However, the Health Ministry has assured that foreign campuses will be as per standards. The feedback on the matter is still awaited from Human Resource Development Ministry.

US Officials Warn Against Use Of Fake Certificates
US educational officials have warned students against using fake certificates, as this is considered a serious crime in the country. The above warning was issued owing to the fact that various students were resorting to certificate manipulation and US universities were caught in immigration frauds.

Lok Sabha Gives Green Signal To 8 new IITs, BHU-IT
Lok Sabha finally gave its nod for incorporating eight new IITs under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. The good news also comes with the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU) getting converted into a full-fledged IIT. The eight new IITs in Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Patna, Hyderabad, Indore, Mandi, Jodhpur and Ropar were established in the year 2008. Incorporating these new technological institutes, would now award legal status to these institutes allowing them to grant degrees to students.
