'Future schools' to be launched in the country

Commencing this academic year, the country will see the establishment of some upcoming ‘future schools' by the Education Department in Thiruvananthpuram. Under this ‘future schools' project, some chosen government schools will be modified at par with international standards. A significant amount of Rs 15 crore will be reserved for one school each in 19 constituencies in the state.
Key highlights of this ‘future schools' project:
- Restructuring of schools under Right to Education (RTE) will be executed from this year
- At least one room in each school will be converted into a smart classroom
- A sum of Rs 1.6 lakh will be utilized to provide expert training to every teacher in the state
- 124 MGLCs(Multi-Grade Learning Centres) will be elevated to schools
At the Higher Secondary level, as much as Rs 51 crore will be spent to take up infrastructure development projects in higher secondary schools. Besides this, Rs 3.5 crore will go towards training in arts, ‘souhruda clubs' and student empowerment programmes in 200 schools.
Talking about developments, an IT-based project too will be taken up to further the managerial competence in the sector. Proposed scholarship for students and curriculum reformation will also be a part of this project. (Read more complete story)
