The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), in partnership with Hogan Assessments, launched its newest product – Reflect. This is a soft-skills solution for use by students, professionals at any stage in their careers, business schools looking to develop leadership skills in the classroom, or corporations working to identify and develop talent in the workplace.

Reflect is a self-administered online assessment and self-directed, soft-skills development programme. Soft skills, or competencies, are an important set of personal attributes that enhance an individual’s interactions, job performance and career prospects. GMAC worked with schools, corporaterecruiters and experts in soft-skills development to identify 10 competencies essential to job and career success.

Reflect identifies an individual’s personal and professional strengths, weaknesses and core drivers along with 10 competencies essential for success. Within 45 minutes of input, users have access to personalised, action-oriented advice from the industry’s best executive coaches, as well as an online library of articles, book summaries and videos. Finally, users can benchmark their scores against high performers in 14 job categories.

What is the Re?ect advantage?

The Re?ect self-assessment and development tool evaluates personal and professional qualities deemed imperative in today’s workplace by 800 corporate recruiters. The Re?ect tool provides concrete action items to help individuals learn more about themselves, improve their strengths, and address their weaknesses. The Re?ect tool is the only interactive platform that goes beyond results to provide a personalised action plan, library, and benchmarking data from 14 job functions.

What benefits can you accrue out of using Reflect?

• Gain a personal awareness of your strengths and weaknesses and be better prepared to present yourself in interviews.

• Learn the characteristics of low, moderate, and high performing behaviours.

• Software creates a customised action plan and a virtual executive coach to improve performance.

• Develop ways to enhance strengths and mitigate weaknesses.

• Use benchmark data to understand drivers of success in potential career paths.

• Discover areas for development based on career goals.

What does the Re?ect software measure?

Re?ect software measures personality. Because personality is stable, results won’t change in the short term, but behaviour can change as a result of active development. For example, certain personalities naturally prefer to work alone, but through active development, he or she can change behaviours to embrace teamwork, though their preference to work alone may remain.

“Until now, there have been soft-skills assessments based on hard science for corporate, school or executive-coached programs or soft-science products for individual use. Reflect is a hard-science, data-driven product developed with the individual, schools and corporations in mind,” said Dave Wilson, president and CEO of GMAC. “Reflect breaks new ground in this very important career and educational development space by meeting the needs of individuals looking to advance their careers or professional education, as well as schools and corporations looking to develop the personal or professional strengths of their students or staff.”

The Reflect programme is priced at $99.99 (USD) and is available worldwide at www.gmac.com/reflect
