Government has proposed a pilot project to create a national database of academic qualifications in DMAT format. It would facilitate the authentication and reissue of certificates, and is likely to be presented before the Union Cabinet. Approval by the cabinet would clear the way for the HRD Ministry to bring the National Academic Depository (NAD) Bill 2011 in Parliament in this Monsoon session.

Ministry of HRD has instructed Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to carry out this pilot project on National Academy Depository, (NAD). HRD Ministry has carried forward this project in collaboration with Central Depository Services and National Securities Depositories. It will facilitate academic institutions to examine if a degree is genuine or fake and will, therefore, discourage the forging of documents. Students would also be able to access database anywhere, anytime, and losing a certificate will not cause much trouble.

As a part of pilot implementation, CBSE has made available the results of following examinations on the NAD system:

  • Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), 2011
  • CBSE Board XII Standard Exam 2011

In the beginning, it will be available free of cost for a maximum period of 3 months from the date of installation (26.07.2011).
