IGNOU launches online programmes in Chinese language
The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU's) School of Foreign Languages (SOFL) has launched a diploma programme to learn Chinese language in both face-to-face and online mode along with a certificate programme in Chinese language through online mode for July 2011 session.
This is for the first time in India that the teaching of Chinese language and culture will be imparted through online demonstration via IGNOU satellite. The online programmes are especially meant for those business schools in Delhi and outside Delhi which would like to introduce this programme to their B-School students. Under this scheme, study materials, teaching and holding examinations will be held through online mode.
The Diploma in Chinese language and Culture (DCLC) is a one year programme which can be completed in maximum two years duration with no entrance test. Admission to this programme is based on first cum first serve basis with maximum 30 seats for face-to-face mode.
A special feature of the diploma programme is that those scoring 80% and above marks in the final examination will be considered for undergoing further training in Chinese universities in China. Successful candidates will also be exposed to the industries doing business with China.
"Upon completion of the diploma course, students will be able to participate in simple conversations in Chinese on topics relating to self, family and study; recognize and produce the tones of modern standard Chinese accurately using pinyin system of romanticisation; explain the principles of the Chinese character writing system; recognize and write approximately 1000 basic Chinese characters; recognize a further 2000 Chinese words and phrases. Besides, this programme also intends to train learners about the basic culture of China by introducing China's political system, economy and general knowledge of the country," said Prof. G. Chaudhuri, Director, SOFL, IGNOU.
The last date for the submission of forms is 18th July 2011 without late fee. Forms can be downloaded from IGNOU website (www.ignou.ac.in) or can be procured from IGNOU head quarters by paying Rs.100. Prospective students may also contact at 295722770.
