IGNOU launches UG and PG programmes with FDDI
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched five undergraduate and three post graduate programmes in collaboration with the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI).
The eight new programmes viz, M. Sc. (Fashion Merchandizing & Retail Management), M. Sc. (Footwear Technology), M. Sc. (Creative Designing CAD/CAM), M. Sc. (Leather Goods & Accessories Design), M. Sc. (Visual Merchandizing & Communication Design), B. Sc. (Fashion Merchandizing & Retail Management), B. Sc. (Footwear Technology) and B. Sc. (Leather Goods & Accessories Design) have been launched keeping in mind an urgent need to orient footwear industries and their R & D laboratories to initiate new educational programmes to upgrade the knowledge of practicing workers, semi-skilled and skilled personnel in footwear industries keeping in view the demands of technological revolution at work place.
The cost of prospectus along with the admission form is Rs.1000 and is available at the FDDI campus in Noida, Rae Bareilly, Chennai and Kolkata. The prospectus can also be procured from 55 locations through reputed banks across India (details of banks and branches are available at www.FddiIndia.com). Students can also send a demand draft of Rs.1000 in favour of FDDI payable at New Delhi to FDDI Noida to procure the prospectus through courier or can also download from FDDIs website. Last date for submission of admission forms is May 19, 2011.
"These programmes will open new avenues for students and will help in producing trained man power for Export oriented industries working in field of Footwear, Leather and other allied products," said Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, VC, IGNOU.
"Under this collaboration FDDI will impart Full Time Training at their six campuses across India located at Noida, Fursatganj, Chennai, Kolkata, Rohtak & Chindwara. IGNOU along with collaborative partner FDDI will maintain the quality of all these eight programmes so that the students after getting rigorous and intensive teaching & training will be an asset for the organizations where they will serve. IGNOU will be offering Degree to the students in these collaborative programmes in niche area of Footwear Design, Leather Goods & Accessories Designing & Retail Management on successful completion of the programme," he added.
Citing about the relevance & requirement of this collaboration with IGNOU, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director FDDI said, "With the gradual increase in the branches of FDDI and in view of the increase in student's strength it became imperative to provide Degree to the students to make the programmes of FDDI at par with other Universities. With this new development, students would be able to apply for higher study and also apply for Central / State Govt. jobs."
All the eight programmes will be coordinated by Prof Subhasis Maji, Professor in Mechanical Engineering, School Of Engineering & Technology (SOET), IGNOU.
