Indian Student Gets Award For Research On Drug Synthesis
The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, the world's largest high school science research competition and a programme of Society for Science and the Public, announced its top winners in Los Angeles.
A team from Lafayette, California, received the Gordon E. Moore Award, a $75,000 prize in honour of the Intel co-founder and retired chairman and CEO.
Raghavendra Ramachanderan of Chennai was awarded the Best of Category Award and received the award and US$5,000 for his research into drug synthesis.
This is the first time that all the participating Indian students have won awards at the fair.
Ankur Vaishnav and Hetal Vaishnav of Rajkot received a second place Grand Award in the field of environmental management; Manosij Dastidar of Kolkata received a place grand Award in the field of mathematical sciences; Pramoda Vishnumurthy and Bhargava Subbanna of Puttur received third place Grand Award in the field of environmental management; Abhishek Khanna and Akansha Verma of New Delhi received a fourth place Grand Award in the field of Animal Sciences; and Diksha Gupta of New Delhi received an American Society for Microbiology award.
In addition to the winners mentioned above, more than 400 finalists received awards and prizes for their groundbreaking work. Awards included 17 "Best of Category" winners who each received a $5,000 prize. The Intel Foundation also awarded a $1,000 grant to each winner's school and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair-affiliated fair they represent.
