Karbonn Agnee – India’s 3G tablet for education sector

Karbonn, a domestic handset maker in collaboration with Innominds Technologies (a solutions provider in product engineering) unveiled ‘Karbonn Agnee’ - an indigenous 3G tablet aimed primarily for use in the education sector.  Powered by Qualcomm Technologies Inc’s SnapDragon processor, the tablet has been designed and developed completely in India.

Available in three versions, one of the tablets is slated to be launched by Diwali this year. The other two will be made available in December.

Key features of Karbonn Agnee tablet:

  • iCare content platform - one of the USPs of the tablet ,will provide education solutions. It will be a comprehensive and collaborative platform for students and faculty
  • The Karbonn AGNEE is powered by QTI’s 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • The tablet’s content platform will support both rich text and HTML
  • The tablet will support 22 Indian languages
  • The first and most basic variation of the tablet to be launched will be the Agnee L model
  • The Agnee L will have a 7-inch display with a 4.0 Android OS which can be updated as and when Android updates
  • Two cameras – in the front and at the rear add up one of the features of this tablet. The front facing camera has a resolution of 1.3 MP front
  • 4000 mAh Li-Polymer battery and supports 720p video
  • The tablet would cost something below Rs 10,000

Preloaded with applications based on education, entertainment and general interests like newspapers, reading, usage and directory related services, the tablet will be customised to the Indian experience in terms of the apps and experience. Some apps will be free of cost and many will have free trial periods which will eventually become paid apps. The Karbonn Agnee is a 3G voice and data enabled tablet and not a 3G dongle enabled tablet.

With Karbonn Agnee being the first 3G tablet based on QRD, Innominds aims to come up with future designs adapted for retail and other industry verticals, leveraging QRD (QTI Reference Design).
