Lessons for the teachers
Visit the Central Institution of Education (also known as department of education) now and you will find students queuing up to submit their application forms. With the last date of application drawing close (May 5 is the last date for the BEd programme), thousands of students-cum-prospective teachers are busy completing the pre-admisison formalities for one seat among the 300 (approx). It is expected that like last year, this year too the number of applicants will cross 8000.
After finishing his BSc from a DU college, Ashok Meena applied for MSc, LLB and BEd – all in DU. Much to his delight, he was selected for all three. The reason why he chose BEd was because “in just one year, you become job-ready. During the time of training in school, we are treated with a distinct respect, all because of the CIE,” says Meena. Another student, Divyanshu Patel, came from Lucknow to study here, because of the “top notch” faculty of CIE. “Some of them have held key positions in policy-making bodies related to education. We have a professor, Krishna Kumar, who retired as the director of the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) and the dean Anita Rampal was a member of the NCF 2005 (National Curriculum Framework). These teachersfamiliarised us with important and contemporary issues like the RTE Act and its ramifications,” says Patel.
